PHILIP MACKEY

ARTIST

Philip Mackey is from Letterkenny, Co Donegal.

He is currently employed by the Office of the Chief Herald as an heraldic artist and calligrapher based in the National Library, Kildare Street, Dublin.

Philips interest in portrait painting began while he was attending the North West Institute, Derry, he complied a collection of painting on street drinkers as part of his higher diploma in fine art. Philip uses a wide variety of paints in his work, oils, acrylics, gouache, watercolours and egg-tempera. Philip's work that had been selected by the Royal Ulster Academy, Belfast and the Royal Hibernian Academy, Dublin.

The Genealogical office was established under the reign of King Edward VI of England and Ireland over 400 years ago. An exhibition to mark this event was held in the Nation Library in 2003, most of the exhibits dated back over the centuaries. Philip's work was exhibit at this event.
